Client Finance Manager

Finance & AccountingFull-timeπŸ“ UKπŸ’΅ Β£45,000-Β£55,000

Job Description & Requirements

Hey! πŸ‘‹ We're Flexal, an AI-native accounting firm running the finance function for some of the UK's coolest startups. Our clients span the startup journey: bootstrapped, seed-stage, and scaling VC-backed companies. We power the finance function behind startups backed by Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Entrepreneur First and many other top tier VCs. Our model is simple: partner with clients and give them the best possible experience, whilst building our own AI powered systems to automate as much of the day to day work as possible. We're growing rapidly and are looking for an ambitious, sharp and qualified accountant to join our team. You won't be a small cog in this role: you'll be the primary point of contact for a growing portfolio of clients, the quality gate on our work, and the person who makes sure every client gets outstanding service. You'll work directly with the co-founders and shape how this firm scales. What You'll Do Own client relationships. Be the first point of contact for your portfolio. Handle the day-to-day queries β€” from routine questions to the open-ended ones with no playbook, where you research, form a view, and advise (with the support of others in the team when needed!). Own the numbers. Take ownership of year-end accounts, corporation tax returns and management reporting across your portfolio. You'll work with our tech, bookkeepers and specialists β€” reviewing their work before it reaches clients and rolling your sleeves up when needed. What goes out the door is on time, correct, and yours. Run client onboarding. Lead new clients into your portfolio through excellent onboarding, making sure we impress from day 1. Get them set up on our side, get the processes functioning and pre-empt any questions to make sure we make a strong first impression. Manage workflow and deadlines. Own the deadlines for your portfolio and the rhythm of delivery, working with clients and our own team so nothing slips and nobody needs chasing twice. Improve how we work. Our SOPs are good; make them better. Champion technology and automation β€” spot where AI and other tooling can remove low-value work, improve accuracy, and feed improvements back into our systems so the firm scales efficiently. Grow with us. This is our second full time hire. You're not joining a slow-growing, 50 year old practice. You're joining a fast growing firm with big ambitions β€” it will be hard at times, but you'll grow 100x the amount you would at almost any other firm. What We're Looking For Essential: Strong interest in pushing the accounting industry forward with AI at the forefront Qualified accountant with 3+ years experience 3+ years in a UK accounting practice, including statutory accounts, corporation tax and VAT Experience owning a client portfolio and confidently communicating directly with clients Experience reviewing others' work and taking responsibility for quality Comfortable with ambiguity - able to take a question with no obvious answer, work it out, and advise with confidence (with support from us!) Highly organised and self-directed: you manage your own workload, track the details, and don't need chasing Nice to have: Experience with startup / scale-up clients (fundraising, investor reporting, equity) Exposure to EMI schemes, P11Ds or other specialist areas β€” or the appetite to learn them Experience onboarding new clients or handling finance-function handovers What Success Looks Like Within six months, you're the reason our clients say service has never been better: Every client query gets the best possible service Work reaches clients with high accuracy and on time New clients describe onboarding as the smoothest they've experienced You're working closely with your clients and moving them forward What We Offer Β£45,000 – Β£55,000 salary 30 days' holiday including bank holidays Workplace pension Springboard your career at the intersection of accounting and tech Remote-first working, with occasional get-togethers in London or Cambridge Autonomy and agency to solve problems and make things better A firm that runs on modern systems and automation, not paper and legacy habit Genuine progression: we're growing, and this role grows with us We’re working on our benefits package, so you have the ability to shape this too! Our Process We keep it fast and respectful of your time: Intro call (30 mins, video) β€” mutual fit, your background, our plans Work session (60 mins, remote) β€” practical exercises reflecting the real job Final conversation (60 mins) β€” with both co-founders, scenario discussion and your questions We aim to complete the whole process within two weeks and give feedback at every stage.
